Saturday evening and nearly time for a small detour pass the wine cupboard I think. It’s looking a little scant and so I can’t wait to be back in France again soon! This bottle of French red, Ventoux, has a label that epitomizes everything France. The pretty language, the relaxed drive, the beautiful countryside and of course the 2CV.
We had a 2CV once, bought new in 1988. It was literally the cheapest car on the UK market and we bought it for £3200 on 12 months interest free credit. Citroen used Tintin and Snowy in their marketing campaign, who actually wasn’t from France at all! On Autotrader today it will cost you more to buy a 30 year old 2CV than it cost to buy a brand new one all those years ago.
Sadly my little 2CV never went to France and missed out on those trips home with a boot full of wine. Even with the poor exchange rate the quality of wine you can pick up for less than £2.30 a bottle in a supermarche, if you’re careful, can easily outdo a £7-8 bottle over here.
